Responsible care

What is Responsible Care® ?
Responsible Care® is a voluntary initiative created by the global chemical industry through ICCA to promote continuous improvement in the safe handling of our products during all their life. This begins with their development in the research laboratory and takes in manufacturing, distribution and end use.
First launched in Canada in 1987, and reinforced in 2006 with the Global Charter, Responsible Care® is now carried out in 53 countries and goes beyond legal requirements in most of them. By subscribing to Responsible Care®, companies agree to constantly enhance their performance in terms of health, safety and protection of the environment by implementing the nine principles of the Responsible Care® Global Charter.
These nine principles include a full range of management practices designed to improve all aspects of the life cycle of a product. The global chemical industry encourages accountability by imposing Responsible Care® as one of the criteria for membership of industry associations.
Rhodia committed to Responsible Care® on November 16, 2006 by signing the Global Charter.
By implementing the Charter, Rhodia will continue to improve its environmental, health and safety performance and advance the company's sustainable development program by championing and facilitating Responsible Care® across the business value chain and addressing stakeholder expectations in the program's continuing development.
Rhodia will work with customers and suppliers to manage our chemical products using a risk-based and life-cycle oriented approach, supported by sound scientific information. These commitments include making relevant risk information publicly transparent and cooperating with governments and the public to promote the safe use of chemicals worldwide.
