Rhodia presents its cost-effective and eco-friendly surfactant technologies at Cesio 2008
Paris (France) andBristol(PA,USA) -June 23, 2008- Improved cost-effectiveness and eco-friendly properties are the key factors strengthening Rhodia’s position as a global leader in the specialty surfactant market.
Rhodia provides innovative surfactant systems - structured surfactant liquids, polymeric and eco-friendly surfactants - for use in home and personal care, agrochemicals and other industrial applications.
Rhodia uses sustainable chemistry to develop surfactant-based systems in partnership with customers delivering the following benefits:
-
Cost-effective performance: increased process efficiency, energy and raw materials savings, highly-concentrated products;
-
Sustainability: renewable resources utilization, eco-friendly product profile.
For the Personal Care market, Rhodia has designed Miracare® Plaisant, a new plant-based surfactant system that offers an eco-friendly solution for mild and refreshing cleansing. Miracare® Plaisant is based on biodegradable and renewable ingredients, while providing flexibility and cost efficiency to formulators.
In the Agrochemicals market, Geronol® CF/AR, a surfactant based-system, is a bio-activator for water soluble actives. It has an excellent tox and eco-tox profile and is extremely compatible with concentrated glyphosate formulations and co-herbicides.
In Industrial applications, Rhodibloc® RS, a surfactant booster for emulsion stabilization, uses innovative chemistry for the industrial production of block copolymers. It provides a cost-effective process solution for stabilization of water-in-oil emulsions, preventing coalescence and flocculation.
Rhodia’s Novecare Enterprise supplies a large range of surfactants — cationic, anionic, non-ionic and amphoteric — delivering multi-functions adapted to specific applications, including foaming effect, surface modification, cleansing, emulsion, rheology, environmental and health protection.
Rhodia holds leading positions in surfactants. The Company ranks first worldwide in mild surfactants, as well as leading positions in amphoteric surfactants and phosphate ester anionic surfactants.
Utilizing its worldwide manufacturing, R&D and tech-support networks in surfactants, Rhodia aims to accompany global key accounts and local customers in mature markets in North America and Western Europe, and in high growth zones such as Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
Rhodiais aninternational chemical company resolutely committed to sustainable development. As a leader in its businesses, the Group aims to improve its customers’ performance through the pursuit of operational excellence and its ability to innovate. Structured around six Enterprises, Rhodia is the partner of major players in the automotive, tire, electronics, perfume, health & beauty and home care markets. The Group employs around 15,000 people worldwide and generated sales of €4.8 billion in 2007. Rhodia is listed on Euronext Paris.

Personal Care market
-
Miracare® Plaisant, a new plant-based surfactant system that offers an eco-friendly solution for mild and refreshing cleansing. Its eco-friendly profile is based on biodegradable and renewable ingredients. Miracare® Plaisant is easy to formulate and provides flexibility and cost efficiency to formulators.
-
Miracare® SLB is a high-performance surfactant liquid system that boosts sensorial and moisturizing effects and gives a creamy texture for many cleansing applications. Thanks to its liquid crystal surfactant phase-in formulation, Miracare® SLB is easy to formulate and offers versatile solutions.
Home Care and Industrial Cleaning markets
-
Miranol® and Mirataine® are smart biodegradable surfactants for home-care products. In addition to their biodegradability and high purity profile, they present excellent detergent properties combined with mildness and foam quality.
-
Rhodoclean® EFC, used in industrial cleaning, has an excellent tox and eco-tox profile and increases productivity through fast diffusion to the interface and low-foaming effect.
Industrial markets
-
Abex® 8010 for paper coating polymerization is an APE-free alternative for DPOS surfactants. Based on plants and renewable sources, Abex® 8018 is readily biodegradable and provides high stability for styrene and butadiene latex polymerization.
-
EnviRho® WA for paint coatings is used in the design of APE-free paint formulations. Not only biodegradable, it is also ISO 14593 certified. EnviRho® WA improves wetting, reduces foaming and is easy to handle thanks to its low viscosity and low pour point.
-
Rhodibloc® RS, a surfactant booster for emulsion stabilization, uses innovative chemistry for the industrial production of block copolymers. It provides stabilization of water-in-oil emulsions, preventing coalescence and flocculation.
-
Mirataine®, Rhodapex® and Rhodasurf® in the Oil Field market are used to increase efficiency of drilling, fracturing and completion operations. They manage viscosity and rheology in brine and broad temperature range conditions. With a good eco-tox profile, Mirataine®, Rhodapex® and Rhodasurf® meet the most stringent regulatory requirements, such as in North Sea sector.
Agrochemical market
-
Geronol® CF/AR, a surfactant based-system, is a bio-activator for water soluble actives. It has an excellent tox and eco-tox profile and is extremely compatible with concentrated glyphosate formulations and co-herbicides.
