Rhodia earns official recognition for its sustainability performance News release

Paris, September 8, 2008 ---- Specialty chemical producer Rhodia has been accepted for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI World), the front-ranking, non-financial global index of the most efficient companies in the area of social and environmental responsibility.

Every year, DJSI World monitors the sustainable development performance of the world’s 2,500 most highly capitalized companies through a questionnaire focused on a particular industrial sector. Only the 250 most efficient companies are included on the index. Of the 86 chemical companies covered by the assessment, only nine – including Rhodia – have been listed. With a score of 86 percent, Rhodia is just one point behind the leader in the chemical industry. The Group was praised for the quality of its environmental reporting mechanism, the reduction of its greenhouse gas emissions*, its Health and Safety policy** and its Rhodia Way management system*** that it has now introduced worldwide.

* In 2007, Rhodia emitted 8.4 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent. Thanks to investments made in France, Brazil and South Korea, the Group managed to avoid the release of 37 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent in 2007. Over this same period, Rhodia traded 13.4 million metrics tons of CO2 equivalent as carbon credits within the framework of the Kyoto protocol.

** With less than one accident with lost time per million hours worked (Rhodia personnel, temporary workers and subcontractors included), Rhodia achieves one of the best performances worldwide in the chemical industry.

*** Rhodia Way is the framework of commitments in the area of social and environmental responsibility incorporated into the Group’s management processes. It currently includes 21 commitments expressed in a series of 44 good practices. Thanks to a hundred employees responsible for promoting this initiative, Rhodia Way was successfully rolled out worldwide in 2007.
