Rhodia and its Polyamide 6.6 have been chosen for under-the-hood applications in biofuel enginesNews release
Lyon, France – September 23, 2009 – Magneti Marelli has chosen Rhodia’s Technyl® to produce the air intake manifold (AIM) and the fuel rail of the C4 and the C5 2l biofuel engines in Brazil. This choice is extended to 407, 307 and 308 series.
An efficient international partnership
The two partners have worked in closed collaboration on this project, as Rhodia Brazil developed the simulation analysis while Magneti Marelli Brazil dealt with parts validations.
The intercontinental collaboration of European and Brazilian teams from PSA, Magneti Marelli and Rhodia has led to the homologation of Technyl® A 218 V30 black, a glass fibre reinforced 6.6 polyamide, for both the AIM as well as the fuel rail used for Brazilian market, a large user of bio-fuels with the flex-fuel system.
Rhodia’s expertise at its clients’ service
Leading the polyamide market in the zone, Rhodia has already developed a strong experience in under-the-hood applications for flex-fuel engines.
Indeed, besides its position of major actor of the PA 6.6 market and its Brazilian experience, Rhodia has developed a strong expertise in the field of permeation, acquired in its CNRS shared laboratory. Rhodia can thus support its automotive customers to face the new challenges imposed by European norms.
Technyl® PA 6.6 is then the material of choice, resisting to high temperature and providing good permeability resistance for under-the-hood applications of the new vehicles.
Rhodia Polyamide is Rhodia's fully integrated enterprise focusing on Polyamide 6.6. Its strategy rests on three pillars: a high worldwide competitiveness of intermediates & polymers along with strong development of the industrial footprint in fast growing regions; the strengthening of engineering plastics as a growth engine; and a focus on Asia and Brazil as priority regions for expansion beyond our European base. InSouth America, Rhodia Polyamide also holds strong positions in phenol and adiponitrile route, industrial yarns and fibers.
