Partnership between Rhodia and the University of Bordeaux for the development of plant-based chemistryNews release
Paris, June 14, 2010 ----- Rhodia today announced a partnership with the new University of Bordeaux Foundation to support the Chair of "Pine Chemistry and Natural Resources" with the aim of expanding the role of plant-based raw materials in the chemical industry.
France provides particularly favorable climate conditions for the pine tree, making it a valuable renewable resource available in large quantities. Rhodia uses pine to produce surfactants as well as products used in the manufacture of paints and varnishes. Ten percent of Rhodia's raw materials are already plant-based.
"This partnership with the University of Bordeaux Foundation is a further example of Rhodia's firm commitment to responsible and sustainable chemistry,” said Paul-Joël Derian, R&D Director at Rhodia.
Rhodia, which is present in the region through its "Laboratory of the Future", a joint Rhodia-CNRS-University of Bordeaux research center, will be collaborating with the University of Bordeaux’s laboratories of excellence to develop notable innovations that can create value in its markets and manufacturing processes.
