Specialty polymers & monomers
Rhodia produces several types of polymers and monomers based on different technologies for which it has recognized expertise.
Natural polymers and their derivatives have applications in several markets, such as cosmetics, agrochemical formulations and oil drilling. They are vegetable-based and water soluble. Their properties are used to modify texture or rheology, emulsify oils, stabilize complex formulations and prolong the efficacy of active agents or even modify surfaces.
The broad range of Specialty polymers responds to both diverse and specific needs; they are obtained by radicular polymerization or by condensation.
Specialty monomers, used in small quantities, improve the performance of coatings and adhesives on emulsion, solution or polymerization.
Rhodia produces also Polyamide polymer PA6.6 that brings new functionalities such as UV protection and antistatic functions. It is an aliphatic thermoplastic polymer, with a synthesis based on the polycondensation of its monomers - hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid.
