Fluorinated compounds

Fluorinated compounds

Test tubes and flask

Due to their unique properties, fluorinated molecules are key for the synthesis of active pharmaceutical and agrochemical ingredients and for electronic applications.

  • Fluorine increases molecules lipophilicity which facilitates bioavailability, hence higher benefit at lower dosage.

  • Fluorine is the most electronegative atom. As such it creates strong dipoles, causing molecules to react to external electric fields. These physico-chemical properties are used in liquid crystal applications.

  • In some cases, such as triflic acid, fluorine enhances thermal resistance. This is particularly beneficial in battery electrolyte applications.

  • Fluorinated organic acids are particularly strong. Thus they are very efficient catalysts in many applications.

Based on its expertise in hydrofluoric acid, Rhodia offers trifluoroacetic acid and triflic acid derivatives, combining environmentally sustainable and competitive integrated processes.
